Teaches principles and terminology, giving a broad working knowledge of the human body, essential to understanding patient health needs. Course can be taken by distance education if required.

Japanese Massage

Anma is a comprehensive therapeutic massage style based on muscle kneading, designed to work muscles deeply and directly. It can be applied over clothing or bare skin, sitting or lying down, on a table, or on the floor. Anma techniques have been the foundation for a number of modern modalities such as swedish massage and sport massage. This popular massage is great for sporting applications, corporate work or as a warm up to Trigger Point therapy. One of the most popular massages in our clinic, everyone loves this massage!

This is a compulsory subject required by all associations and health funds.
Due to changes in Academy Policies, the subject, “Applied First Aid” may now be undertaken at another Government Accredited training institute of your choice instead of on campus at the NHAA.
The “Applied First Aid” course that you study must have the Units Of Competency Code “HLTFA301C” in order for the NHAA to recognise the accreditation. You can choose to study Applied First Aid at any time that is suitable to you.
The Essentials

This subject will introduce the science of Aromatherapy and provide a foundation for using essential oils in a clinic. The connections between other healing modalities useful to an Aromatherapist such as massage, acupressure & reflexology to treat mind, body and spirit will be discussed. Upon completion you will be able to immediately use essential oils for your clinic. This subject covers:

The Gateway to Balance
Pre-requisites: Reflexology I or Anatomy & Physiology
Ear Reflexology is the modern term for diagnosing and treating body disorders through the ear. Results can be spectacular. It is useful alone or with any other healthcare therapy. You will be able to effectively treat a variety of Musculoskeletal disorders through the use of massage stimulation and magnets.
This is Advanced Reflexology at its best and is a must for all Remedial Therapists. Sports Therapists often apply this therapy at their clinic and sporting club.

Introduction to Massage
Pre-requisites: None
This is a great introduction to the professional art of massage! Emphasis is on developing sensitivity and awareness, which promotes comfort and security through touch. Body use and posture awareness skills are taught to ensure a fluid and rhythmic massage is performed.

Foundations

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a therapeutic treatment utilising a gentle form of stretching the connective tissue. It produces a profound healing effect upon the body tissues, eliminating pain, restoring motion and releasing patterns of stress.

Sport Medicine Techniques
Pre-requisites: Trigger Point Therapy I, Myofascial I, Sport Massage or Anma, plus Supervised Clinic I (It is a Pre-requisite that Sport Injuries I be completed prior to commencing Sport Injuries II)
Designed for students who wish to deal with musculoskeletal disorders/sports injuries as seen in a clinical practice. Students must have experience in applying remedial techniques such as Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy to soft tissue injuries (these techniques are used extensively in the rehabilitation of soft tissue dysfunctions). Some examples of conditions covered are:
- Neck: acute wry neck and whiplash
- Shoulder: frozen shoulder, rotator cuff dysfunction
- Wrist/hand: tenosynovitis, carpal tunnel syndrome
- Lower back/hip: sciatica and back pain

Deep Tissue Massage

Sport Deep Tissue massage helps the athlete maintain a consistent, injury-free training program and improve athletic recovery time. The course is remedially and therapeutically orientated and sets the foundation for further study of soft tissue dysfunctions. This massage can be used in conjunction with techniques learnt in Massage II for a deeper effect in clinical practice.

Neuromuscular Techniques
Pre-requisites: Massage II (It is a Pre-requisite that Trigger Point Therapy I be completed before commencing Trigger Point Therapy II)
A trigger point is a hypersensitive area in a muscle that, when compressed, is locally tender and often related to referred pain. Systematically working on these points can effectively reduce pain and correct muscle spasm. This remedial course teaches you about trigger points, locations and pain patterns and advanced Spray and Stretch techniques. The course will focus on common musculoskeletal disorders including neck and back problems.
